St. Mary’s Volleyball Legacy
Championships. Culture. College Careers.
The St. Mary’s Lancers Volleyball Program is built on a legacy of hard work, heart, and high standards. With 21 state championship titles, including their most recent this past season, the Lancers have become a powerhouse rooted in tradition and fueled by a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Behind every title is a coaching staff dedicated to developing not just athletes, but leaders. From day one, players are pushed to reach their full potential, both on and off the court.
This culture of commitment has paved the way for dozens of SMH alumni to continue their volleyball careers at the collegiate level, carrying the Lancer legacy with them to campuses across the country.
Don Pieczynski
At the center of St. Mary’s volleyball legacy is Coach Donnie, a leader whose passion, persistence, and belief in young athletes has shaped generations of champions. He has been the head coach since 2007 and has since achieved over 700 career wins and 10 state titles as a head coach. His accomplishments speak volumes, but it’s the way he’s led that makes him legendary.
Coach Donnie started his career at St.Mary’s as the assistant coach to Coach Becky from 2001-2006. After taking over the program in 2007 he built his career on tireless dedication, late-night film sessions, and an unwavering commitment to bringing out the best in every player who steps on the court. He’s more than a coach: he’s a mentor, a motivator, and the embodiment of the Lancer spirit.
From daughters to granddaughters, former players to future stars, his impact continues to ripple through the halls of St. Mary’s and far beyond. The wins are incredible, but the legacy is measured in lives changed. It is truly an honor to be coached by Coach Donnie!
